Your Faith Will Lift You Up

Faith and doubt. Ever battling within us, they influence our responses and often determine our actions. Take Peter. In a boat filled with terrified disciples he alone rose to speak to the ghost who could be Jesus. He was wiling; to put himself in the Lord’s hands. But before he could reach Jesus, his doubt overcame his faith. He recognized the Lord, but not the Lord’s strength. In the first reading, Elijah recognizes God’s strength not in earthquakes or fires, but in the gentle whispering wind. Paul is anguished by his own people’s continued failure to recognize Christ. In the Gospel, the disciples eventually recognize the One who walked on water and calmed the sea. But doubts continue to plague them. Their faith, strong enough for them to leave their jobs, their families, and their homes still didn't eradicate their doubts any more than the courage that Jesus called for in the storm erased their fears. But just as courage allows us to face our fears, faith enables us to handle doubt. Faith helps us recognize God in the midst of the storms in our lives.

Tu Fe te Levantará

La fe la duda. Siempre están batallando dentro de nosotros, influyen en nuestras respuestas y a menudo determinan nuestras acciones. Mira a Pedro. En un bote lleno de discípulos aterrorizados, él solo se levantó para hablar con el fantasma que podría ser Jesús. Estaba dispuesto a ponerse en las manos del Señor. Pero antes de que pudiera alcanzar a Jesús, su duda venció a su fe. Reconoció al Señor, pero no la fortaleza del Señor. En la primera lectura, Elías reconoce que la fuerza de Dios no está en los terremotos o en los incendios, sino en el suave viento susurrante. Pablo está angustiado por el continuo fracaso de su propio pueblo para reconocer a Cristo. En el Evangelio, los discípulos finalmente reconocen a Aquel que caminó sobre el agua y calmó el mar. Pero las dudas siguen plagándolos. Su fe, lo suficientemente fuerte como para dejar sus trabajos, sus familias y sus hogares, no erradico sus dudas más que el coraje que Jesús pidió en la tormenta borró sus temores. Pero así como el coraje nos permite enfrentar nuestros miedos, la fe nos permite manejar las dudas. La fe nos ayuda a reconocer a Dios en medio de las tormentas en nuestras vidas.
